Feng Shui You’re Day With Any Work Space

Feng Shui is a Chinese practice that involves attracting positive energy to one’s living or working space through the placement of everything in their environment.  Practitioners believe the chi or flow of all energy can be affected by or attracted to certain colors, objects and living organisms and their specific location. Things like productivity, business success and your overall mood could all be altered in a positive way simply by introducing a few Feng Shui concepts into your workspace.

Design Your Home Office With Intention

The first thing you should do according to Feng Shui practices is to make sure your home office is as far away from your bedroom as you can. Your office is for work your bedroom is for relaxation, mingling the two energies disrupts the harmony you’re seeking.  Live plants literally breathe new life into any environment, which makes them necessary additions.

If possible, your desk should be in the farthest corner of the room but still facing the entrance, as this puts you in the position of power.

Introducing certain colors in the form of small accents or a complete paint makeover is a sure way to create an energy shift in a room.  Each color has an element of Feng Shui that it corresponds to:

Wood: Green and Brown

Fire: Red, Orange, Yellow, Pink, and Purple.

Earth: Light yellow, Light Brown, any Sandy or Earth tones.

Metal: White and Gray

Water: Black and Blue

Blue is a great choice for any office. It represents the element of water, which is fluid, growing and changing. It promotes growth in your career.  White promotes creativity, and yellow lifts spirits and creates happy energy in a room. Fire colors invoke power, passion, and strength.  Green is said to aid in a good work/life balance and it also improves health.  So when choosing a color scheme, think about your industry, choose whichever of these influences you benefit the most from.

Create A Positive Energy Flow With Plants & Positioning At your Onsite Office

You may not be able to paint the walls but you can certainly incorporate a little color Feng Shui with accessories (as long as you’re careful not to create clutter). You can arrange your desk into the power positioning, bring in plants and if you’re lucky enough to have a large window or two, keep the blinds open. The more natural light you let in, the better.

If there is a tall building within your view, try to sit with your back facing it. This represents the support of a mountain behind you. If you have an aquarium or one of those tabletop fountains, the East, Southeast or North section of the room is where you’ll want to keep it. A tank in the North, especially with blue fish inside, is said to activate energy for business success.

You Can Counteract Bad Vibes With Decor In a Cubical

If you are forced to have your back to the door – not in a commanding position – you can counteract that with a mirror or reflective object that allows you to see the doorway from where you sit. Don’t use anything that’s obtrusive; make sure you’re using things that are appropriate for the office environment. Large mirrors with embellishments and wind chimes are not suitable.

Clear Out The Clutter – Organization is Non-negotiable in Business

Keeping your space free of clutter is not only good for productivity but it also creates a “good energy vibe” throughout your workspace. Organization creates a smooth flow to your day and keeps your stress levels down.  Another thing you could do is to apply Feng Shui color practices to your cubical or bring in live plants just like you could in any other type of office.

Whether your office is home-based or at the job site, arranging your workspace with Feng Shui concepts in mind can boost productivity, decrease your stress levels, eliminate clutter (internally and externally) and allow overall positive energy to flow through your environment and subsequently through you.
